Artist Thoughts: Blue Jays are among the most beautiful birds in North America. Their striking blue feathers with black and white accents make them stand out in any crowd. Not only are they beautiful, but they are also intelligent and have a fascinating social structure.

I recently painted a Blue Jay in honor of National Bird Day, which is celebrated on January 5th. The painting process allowed me to appreciate the stunning variations of blues in the Blue Jay's feathers. The shades of blue range from a bright, vibrant blue to a more muted, almost greyish-blue. The intricate patterns on their wings and tail feathers are also mesmerizing.
