Oil on Linen Panel
Artist Thoughts: I painted a brown pelican sitting on a wooden post after seeing many pelicans on posts during a trip to the Gulf Coast. I started with a canvas board sketch and a blue-green base coat for the sky and water. Using a variety of browns, grays, and whites for the feathers and different shades of brown for the wooden post, I built up the layers of paint gradually to capture the texture of the pelican's fluffiness and depth. My goal was to capture the beauty and tranquility of the bird and its habitat, and I am satisfied with the result.
